Last month I photographed the most adorable baby and family. Dean is 8 months old -- one of my absolute FAVORITE ages to photograph. And though he had a little cold during this session, you would never know it! His mommy Rachel just kept saying, "I hope you got at least one of his cute little dimples when he smiles." And I promised her I did. More than one; many! Here are a few favorites of Dean, his parents, and even his 2 doggies! Enjoy!
Beautiful family! As per usual, we started with a more posed picture to make sure we had one.
Dimply smiles for Mommy - yes please! LOVE!
I love photographing 8 month old babies because they are sitting and crawling...
And just so inquisitive about the world.
More dimples. Love the moment.
After some outdoor pics, we went inside for a few more.
Dimples!! I loved capturing Dean doing exactly what an 8 month old does. Chewing, teething...
Just being cute. Look at those eyes!
One is his dinosaur hat...had to get it from the side.
Another one that I adore. This is so "real baby" and I wouldn't dare photoshop it. :)
One of my favorite more modern shots.
What a cutie! Couldn't decide if I liked it more in color or old-school half sepia.
Our session went really well....
Look at those giggles!
And yes, we even got the doggies!
A baby and 2 dogs...all looking! I am thrilled, and I hope Dean's parents are too. Rachel and Scott, thank you for asking me to do these. I had a blast spending a morning with your family and Dean is so so cute! Hugs! ~Kristine
On Saturday 9-10-11 (cool date huh!), my intern Jocelyn and I photographed Elaine and Alex's beautiful wedding in Charlottesville, VA. Both the ceremony and reception were held at the DoubleTree Hotel, and everything was just perfect, including the weather. It couldn't have been a nicer day for an outdoor ceremony. Jocelyn and I had so much fun capturing the big day for this amazing couple -- here are a few favorites. Enjoy!
Blue skies. Gorgeous early fall temperatures. It was gonna be a good day.
Add a little bling...
Some really fun makeup...
And a beautiful, sweet, and funny bride...
And it was going to be an excellent day.
Some of Elaine's "somethings".
The flowers. Amazingness!
The bridesmaids bouquets were super cool.
Love Jocelyn's shot.
Elaine's finishing touches...
Alex couldn't wait to see his bride.
Those are my hands putting on his flower - I've gotten quite good at that over the years!
LOVE the color!
Ceremony time. Watching and waiting.
The setting at DoubleTree is really really pretty.
More amazing flowers. They actually had candles inside of them.
Family members then lit candles for loved ones who couldn't be there. This is Elaine's Grandmother. It was really special.
Such happiness. I love when I can capture a smile like that.
Couldn't get enough of those flowers.
Vows -- which they wrote themselves.
And they're married. My angle.
Jocelyn's angle. She knows exactly where to be. Love her!
We did a few different wedding party shots and I thought these were so fun.
Their laughter is priceless.
One portrait that's a little traditional...
And one that has a more photojournalistic feel.
Some of my favorites were using the brick columns in front of the hotel.
This might be my fave.
Modern and fresh.
The detail on the cake was so pretty.
And of course so was the whole cake.
The first dance.
These two were so cute.
There are so many adorable shots.
There were some great toasts...
Love Elaine's laugh.
Such a great moment.
One of the most unique and special things about their day was a bouquet presentation. Elaine gave flowers to her Mom, Mother-in-Law and Grandmother...
Elaine's Grandmother sat and watched and had no idea she was going to be given a bouquet.
Elaine had the nicest things to say about her Grandmother, and as she teared up, so did the rest of the room.
The dance floor stayed packed...
And the newlyweds closed it down. Elaine and Alex, thank you so much for the privilege of documenting your wedding. I am so happy you found each other! With love and appreciation ~Kristine & Jocelyn
To say that Ava and Jacob have some of the most beautiful eyes -- and eyelashes -- that I've ever seen would be an understatement. They are just gorgeous! I have been photographing these 2 since they were babies. This is at least the 4th time, and I just ADORE them and their parents. In all of our sessions though, I never took an "eyelash" shot of them before, and this year that was Jeni's only request. She knew I could handle the rest, and for that, I am so grateful. As Thanksgiving approaches, I just want to let Jeni & Matt (and all of my loyal clients) know how appreciative I am that you trust me to document your most precious memories. Thank you thank you thank you!
Here are a few favorites from my session with Ava and Jacob. Enjoy!
Siblings and best friends. Cute cute cute!
Ava - I wasn't kidding about their eyes!
They are beautiful.
So I'm blogging a lot of pictures...
It's my early Christmas gift to them.
Thank goodness they'll have the disk and won't have to choose...
Though I'm pretty sure it will still be a difficult task for them to choose photos for their Christmas card.
Ava and Jacob know me and that helps in getting all these great shots.
What a beauty!
Every year she is just prettier and prettier.
Jacob. I love his serious face.
He is definitely going to be a heartbreaker.
Precious! I'm not showing too many in black & white cause I just love the color...
But, eyelash shots in my opinion were made to be in black & white.
Love love love!
Doesn't get much cuter!
Or more fun!
Cool in sepia too.
A couple more in their holiday outfits...
I could post all day.
We even found an evergreen tree. Perfect!
Jeni and Matt, thank you for asking me once again to photograph your little sweeties. It is always great seeing you all and I hope you love these the most of any we've done yet. Hugs! ~Kristine
The only thing I love more than including the family dog is including more family -- especially when it's Grandma and Great Grandma holding their adorable 6-month old grandson! And that's exactly what Katie and Derek did. It wasn't planned, but Katie's mom and grandma decided to come visit the weekend of our photo session, and when Katie asked if we could include them in a few photos, I was like, "Yes, please!" It really doesn't get any better. Here are a few favorites from our super sweet session.
Three BEAUTIFUL women and three generations, Katie, her Mom, and Grandma.
A favorite of the whole family and 4 generations.
After a bunch of different portraits, we did some that were more candid.
These are just special.
Then Katie, Derek, Michael and Coco headed to the park.
There we were able to get precious pics of Michael...
And of Michael and Coco together! Babies and dogs -- what's not to love!?!
I have been photographing this family since Katie was pregnant with Michael...winter to fall....
Oh how a few months changes so much! LOVE this family shot.
And this one of Michael. Could he be any cuter!?!
Look at those cheeks, and those lips!
He had so much fun exploring his surroundings.
While there, we got some portraits with Mommy...
And of course we got some of those great moments, too.
And Michael kisses. Precious!!!
Katie and Derek, thank you for the opportunity to capture your beautiful family as Michael grows. Looking forward to seeing you all again for 1-year pictures! Hugs! ~Kristine
Niki and Ian are getting married in Charlottesville next August, and after doing their engagement session, I am even more excited for their big day. What an adorable couple! I think the images will speak for themselves, but can I just say that this was SO fun! Ian went into this completely not knowing what to expect (he even said to Niki, "Oh, so you mean we have to get pictures taken BEFORE the wedding?"), and I am so glad that it turned out to be such a memorable afternoon for both of them. Because in my opinion, every moment leading up to the big day should be a memory too. Here are a few favorites from their shoot. Enjoy!
We started off in downtown C'ville...
Making sure to incorporate some of the things that kind of define downtown.
A little window shopping...love the reflection, and the dress!
And then we did a few portraits that were just simple and sweet.
I'm a big fan of "looking away" shots too.
A favorite! Their expressions are so cute!
Niki and Ian are having their wedding reception at the gorgeous Jefferson Theater on the downtown mall. LOVE!
It doesn't get any more C'VILLE than this!
After a few downtown, we headed to Jefferson vineyards. I adore this relaxed portrait.
And I really adore Niki's laugh!
We practiced all kinds of "poses" for their wedding day.
This is one we will not be doing (hehe!), so I'm really glad we were able to capture it now. We did this over and over a few times to get Niki's hair to bounce just perfectly. :)
I loved capturing the way they looked at each other.
There's that laugh again.
Love it. Niki, could you be any prettier?
I had to end with this one -- hello golden hour sunshine! Niki and Ian, thank you for making this so fun! I cannot wait for the big day! Hugs! ~Kris
When thinking of a few words to describe this family, merry and bright came to mind. Mostly because every year I leave their session feeling officially in the holiday spirit....BUT, when I googled them, I thought to myself, yep, these words are even more perfect.
Merry -- it means joyful and happy and jolly, and that definitely describes their warm personalities. But, it can also mean "quick and energetic", and that definitely describes Brody! ;-)
Bright -- it means radiant and reflecting light. When I saw that all I could think of was their eyes. All 4 of them have the most amazing blue eyes, and as their photographer, it was my job to make them reflect light in the best way I know how.
I have been photographing Kat and her family since before 6-year old Alexa wasn't even a year old. Even though I only see these kids once a year, they have still gotten to know me and every year their session goes better than the last. Here are a few favorites as I'm editing the whole shoot. Enjoy!
This year was extra special because their first "baby" Riley was included in a few photos. Grandma came along for the first few minutes and then took Riley back home...
So Grandma's reward = this. A picture with her 2 grandkids.
We started off with a few individual portraits. Alexa is seriously a little model.
But wow, so is Brody. Look at him and that pose!
Gorgeous gorgeous family.
Alexa loves to have her picture taken....
Brody, he'd rather run and play. So we did!
Thank goodness I'm pretty quick and catch those smiles in-between!
According to Katrina, this is how Alexa gets away with anything. ;-) I couldn't resist that smile either!
Daddy's little princess...
And his little prince.
A favorite of Alexa and Brody together. Love it.
This is what happens when you lay on the ground with them...
And when your Mommy promises you a special treat, like a new train.
Alexa in her holiday dress. She couldn't wait to wear it!
I had to pick my top 3 pictures to blog...otherwise I could have filled an entire blog of just this outfit.
Twirling around in the sun. Love.
Brody in his holiday outfit.
Could he be any cuter in his signature Brody hat?
We got some adorable portraits, but I couldn't resist this sweet candid. A perfect moment.
They definitely earned their silly face picture!
Just one of Alexa in her "totally Alexa" outfit, complete with Hello Kitty.
And one more of Brody is his "totally Brody" train shirt. Precious.
Katrina and Scott, thank you doesn't seem like enough to say when I think about how I've photographed your family for the gazillionith time, but really, I am so grateful to be your family's photographer. Lots of love! ~Kris (ps -- if you can't get enough of these cute kids, they'll be appearing on the blog again in a few weeks for their Aunt Kathy and Uncle Thad's wedding blog).
Too much fun. That's what this session was. For me, but also for little Bristol. Towards the end, she could hardly stay awake. It was the cutest. thing. ever. We did this shoot at Maymont Park in Richmond -- one of my favorite spots -- and I absolutely adore the mix of portraits and candids that resulted. Here are just a few favorites. Enjoy!
Gorgeous family. I love this swinging shot! See those fences...
I knew I would love shooting next to them with my lens wide open. Beauty!!!
Once Bristol discovered there were animals inside, she could have stayed there all day.
"Bristol, what does a cow say??"
"Yeah, I'm way cute."
We did several "look at the camera" portraits...
And then a bunch of more directed candids. LOVE.
It's so rewarding to sit back and shoot...
To witness and document such real family interaction is just awesome.
We let Bristol run the show...no pun intended.
She had the best time just exploring.
And anytime she paused, I was ready.
A favorite of the favorites.
Me: "Oh my goodness, that is so cute. She sucks her thumb when she gets tired?"
Her parents: "Yes, and wait til she starts pulling on her ear!" We took that as the cue that she was done with her session, and I am so glad I was able to capture that.
Hillary and Ryan, thanks for asking me to document this absolutely precious time! It was so fun meeting you --- too much fun! :) Kristine
For those of you who may not know, I lived in Pennsylvania for 9 years and that is where my photography business started...by "accident". Best accident ever. While living there, I had the opportunity to photograph Becky, K.C., and their 1-year old son Tyce. That was nearly 3 years ago, and now Becky and K.C. have a second son named Everett. Knowing that I couldn't make it up to PA this fall, Becky and K.C. decided to take a trip to Virginia, and they planned a little vacation from the mountains to the beach, and it all began with a photo shoot. Did I ever mention how I work with the most awesome clients!?!
Since their first session was done right around Tyce's first birthday, it was really special that they could have these photos done right around Everett's first. Becky and K.C. have an amazing log home in central PA, and their only requirement for this session was "rural". Because then the photos would look even more fabulous on their walls. Well, I think Charlottesville delivered for them. I love that we were able to incorporate mountains, pastures with funky grass, rustic fences, stone walls, old doors, you name it. The boys did so great and I'm so excited to share a few favorites of this beautiful family. Enjoy!
Rustic fences. Adorable little Tyce thought they looked good for climbing...
Turns out they also worked really well as a photography prop. Could Everett be any cuter? I heart this picture!
I got several smiling versions of Tyce by the fence, but I couldn't resist his serious "model" face. Love it!
Everett thought the pastures of funky grass were a good spot for picking flowers...
Turns out they also went really well with our "rural" theme.
It was early in the morning and the grass was really wet from morning dew...
But these boys didn't mind one bit!
I love that I was able to give them images that have such a natural and unposed feel to them. As if I wasn't even there.
Love that old door. Especially with a handsome little man standing in front of it.
Look at that smile, and those eyes!
And those eyelashes! Gorgeous!
Everett loved playing in this planter...
And then we found this neat old stone chimney. This will go so well in their home.
Becky and K.C., I am so grateful that you took a little road trip from PA for this session.
I adore your family, and I hope you love the little preview as much as I do. Hugs! ~Kristine
I have been working with this family since I did Sharon's maternity session in May, so it's hard to believe that I'm already blogging little Ascher's 3-month session. During his newborn session, he kept doing "sleep smiles" for my camera, and his smiley-ness has definitely continued. What an adorable, happy baby boy! For this session, Ascher was still the star, but we did do some images with his whole family and his big brothers, and I'm so excited to share a few favorites. Enjoy!
This was Ascher as a tiny newborn...
And here he is at 3 months. Just gorgeous!
His 2 big brothers are really handsome too...
And they just love baby Ascher.
The boys! What cuties! I'm sure this will be going on the wall.
We did just a few portraits and candids with Mommy...
And a few with Daddy...
And then Ascher showed off his smile a little more.
He also showed off grabbing his toes -- adorable!
Tummy time wasn't a favorite of his, but we still got a few cute shots. I just love that little onsie. It makes him look so "baby".
Could he be any more delicious!?!
Why yes, he could! First baby of the season in a Santa hat. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Sharon and Todd, hope you love the preview. Enjoy the holidays and I look forward to seeing you for Ascher's 6-month session soon! ~Kristine
Jenne and I went to high school together. AND -- she was my freshman roommate at Virginia Tech. So needless to say, some of the best memories of my life -- (late nights studying, my first Hokie football game, joining sororities) include her. After college, Jenne lived in places like Europe and New York City and I in Pennsylvania and we lost touch for awhile. But now, we are both back living in the town we grew up in. Yay for Facebook for reconnecting us.
As we walked around chatting during our session, we both kept saying how it felt so good to be "home". I love that we picked up right where we left off...only better. I can't wait to get our kids together to play. But before that, I can't wait to meet (and photograph!) the newest addition to her and John's beautiful family. In less than 24 hours, these amazing parents will welcome their sweet baby girl into the world, and I couldn't be happier for them. It has certainly been a long and emotional road for their family to get to this point. An entire newborn blog will follow later, but first, this blog is about capturing the magical time of Jenne's pregnancy. Dylan is going to be a fantastic big brother -- and their family, well, the love is just undeniable. It's just oozing out of these photos and I'm so excited to share a few favorites. Enjoy!
What a beautiful sweet family.
And what a darling big brother!
Dylan loved listening to his baby sister...
And singing to her - it was so cute!
John had to leave for work halfway through our session, so we made sure to get a few pictures with him toward the beginning. I can't wait for them to see the rest of this series - they are priceless!
Jenne, you are gorgeous! And other than the belly of course, you haven't changed a day since high school!
I've always wanted to take a maternity photo like this...it's one of my fave pics of all time.
Playing around with some new post-processing stuff is always fun.
Speaking of fun, you think Dylan was having any!?! ;-)
I can't choose favorites...
But that's what makes this so rewarding. To love them all!
Jenne and John -- an amazing couple and parents.
One last fun image with Daddy...
And the rest of these will be a surprise to him.
What a handsome little guy!
Seriously, I just adore him! I am so glad that Jenne decided to do this session in addition to newborn photos.
These images will be treasured forever.
And I'm so grateful that I could capture this special time for them.
Jenne and John, congratulations and best wishes tomorrow!
Dylan, I can't wait to photograph you with your baby sister really soon. Hugs! ~Kris
